Press release
Amsterdam, 30 January 2025 - Erik Jonkman has joined Kennedy Van der Laan as partner cybersecurity with effect from 1 January 2025. Erik's appointment strengthens the law firm's leading position among Dutch and international companies for cyber-incident response. The lawyers in the cybersecurity team have in-depth knowledge of and experience with the technical, legal, and strategic issues around cybersecurity.
Erik joins from CMS, where he led the firm’s privacy & cybersecurity team. He specialises in legal issues around information security and advises clients on how to deal with a range of cyber incidents, such as ransomware attacks, invoice fraud, and cyber espionage.
Rosalie Brand, partner cybersecurity at Kennedy Van der Laan, says: “With Erik's arrival, we’re boosting our team with a seasoned cybersecurity expert. And that’s important. The field of law is constantly evolving, with threats coming from different directions and compliance pressure increasing. With Erik's experience in incident response, we’re strengthening our support for clients at the highest level, day and night.”
Kennedy Van der Laan has been at the forefront of IT and data protection since its inception. The cybersecurity team was formed in response to social and legal developments in the digital domain. The team's breach counsels – with their extensive experience in cyber incidents – guide an affected organisation during an incident through difficult areas such as crisis communication and the management of all stakeholders. By working in a multidisciplinary way, lawyers with different areas of expertise pool their knowledge to assist clients on all aspects of cybersecurity: from compliance beforehand, to support during and after an incident, such as with liability claims, to enforcement by regulators.
