Interactive webinar about the legal impact of Brexit
The UK has now completely left the EU. Governments, businesses and professionals are bracing for impact. There are still many uncertainties with regard to the consequences – socially, economically and legally – of this unprecedented step.
There is the possibility that at some point in the future the UK will develop separate and independent policies in the field of data protection regulation, which would mean the UK diverging from EU rules and regulations. It also still remains to be seen whether the European Commission will take an adequacy decision with regard to the UK.
On February 15 2021, we will hold the first edition of Brexit Bites. It will be the kick-off of a series of sessions in which we will explore the - significant - legal aspects and consequences of Brexit - and more specifically the impact on data protection. For obvious reasons this will be a webinar instead of a live event.
We will co-host this session with Jonathan Armstrong & André Bywater, privacy specialists and partners at Cordery, UK. Joining from our side are Hester de Vries and Rosalie Brand.
Since the turbulent final stage of Brexit, we have gathered many new insights, but there are also countless new questions to be answered.
As privacy lawyers, we are there to help you navigate an uncertain future. With Brexit Bites, we are aiming to address some of the hot topics in a dynamic and interactive way.
Topics expected to be covered include the following:
- Is the Netherlands prepared for the “full” Brexit and what steps are available to them?
- Will there be new UK Data Protection legislation? Will the temporary 4 month data deal last?
- Will Data Protection Officers still be needed in the UK?
- Will there be any changes to Data Protection Impact Assessments?
- Will the UK regulator the ICO have a role in the EU’s One-Stop-Shop?
- Will the UK and Dutch regulators exchange information?
- What are the implications for data transfer between the UK and the Netherlands?
- Will data breaches still need to be notified to the ICO?
- Will Brexit mean changes to data protection enforcement both in the UK & in the EU?
