For many organisations, applying the AI Act begins with a fundamental question: does the technology we use actually fall within the definition of an AI system?
Although AI is now widely used across organizations, it is not always clear when a system falls within the scope of the AI Act and which obligations arise as a result. To support organizations in this assessment, the European Commission has developed the AI Act Compliance Checker.
This online tool helps organizations gain a better understanding of whether a particular application may fall under the AI Act and what role they play in relation to it, for example as a user, provider, or importer of an AI system. In addition, the tool provides an initial indication of the obligations that may apply.
The Compliance Checker does not provide a legally binding assessment, but it serves as a valuable starting point for organizations that wish to evaluate their use of AI against the new European regulations.
