Amsterdam, July 22nd 2020 – Joost Schmaal (37) has been appointed partner at Kennedy Van der Laan. He has been part of the firm’s Technology practice since 2008 and specializes in complex outsourcing, IT-sourcing and IT-related disputes.
Schmaal advises larger and smaller clients in various sectors, including IT, insurance companies and retailers. Because of his expertise with technology, Schmaal is a trusted advisor to his clients on sourcing-related issues and disputes with a technology component. He has been active as in-house legal counsel for clients and has a strong focus on the broader interests of his clients.
Schmaal has a degree in Dutch Law as well as in English Literature & Culture from the University of Amsterdam. In 2014, he completed the postdoc Information Law at the Grotius Academy cum laude.
He is a member of various associations in the field of information technology and law and regularly publishes in legal and non-legal journals. Schmaal was designated a Next Generation Partner by Legal 500 in 2018 and 2019.
