Profile
Merel is a senior attorney in our Intellectual Property and Media practice group. She advises and litigates on the protection and exploitation of intellectual property rights, with an emphasis on trademark law. Merel is also active in the media and platform practice, where she is mainly involved in the realisation of and advising on audiovisual and film development, the production of films and series, and content review. Merel also advises on advertising regulations (including in the field of influencer marketing) and games of chance.
Merel graduated from VU University Amsterdam and specialised in intellectual property law during her master's degree. Before Merel joined Kennedy Van der Laan, she worked as a lawyer for five years at a niche law firm in Amsterdam.
Merel occasionally publishes in professional journals (such as IPR and BerichtenIE) and is a member of various industry associations including FIPE, AIPPI and BMM.
In September 2024, Merel successfully completed the Mr S.K. Martens Academy (post-academic specialisation course in intellectual property and procedural law in commercial practice).
