Laura Poolman

Laura is a senior associate in the Privacy practice of Kennedy Van der Laan. She specializes in AI, (e)privacy, and data protection law. She advises and litigates on the GDPR, Telecommunications Act, and AI Act.

Laura has excellent knowledge of data protection principles relating to AI solutions and (the data flows in) the AI ecosystem. 

Track record

  • Multiple proceedings concerning the placement and reading of tracking cookies by online advertising parties
  • Assessment of whether the processing of highly pseudonymized and privacy-enhanced datasets still qualifies as personal data within the meaning of the GDPR for use in AI training
  • Proceedings in connection with a request for access to (personal data in) documentation relating to an integrity investigation at a Dutch TV broadcaster
  • Extensive data protection impact assessments (DPIAs) for organizations in various sectors that carry out “high-risk” data processing activities, such as the use of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth tracking technology and the use of customer data for AI systems
  • Administrative procedure in connection with compliance with spam rules for direct marketing by a large B2C service provider
  • Coordinating and implementing GDPR compliance projects for the government and private sector

Laura is a frequent speaker at (global) events and courses in the field of data protection, such as the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) and guest lecturer at the official postgraduate specialist training program of the Privacy Law Association (Vereniging Privacy Recht Advocaten).
