Profile
Bart is a Finance and Restructuring partner within Kennedy Van der Laan. He advises on cross-border and domestic financing transactions, restructuring and insolvency matters of all kinds. As such he also supports his clients as leading counsel in ‘bet the company’ situations. Bart acts as court-appointed administrator in insolvency proceedings, most of which have international dimensions.
He provides advice as boardroom counsel in situations where a broader perspective and in-depth knowledge of both the law and the business is needed. He also assists clients in complex negotiations. He acts for financial institutions as well as clients in the technology, retail, fashion and real estate sector.
From 2014-2018 Bart was the managing partner of Kennedy Van der Laan. He is a promotor of innovation in the legal industry and is one of the initiators of Kennedy Van der Laan | LegalTech.
Recent Work
- Regularly acts as lead counsel for a global loyalty programme company on facility agreements;
- Acting as court appointed liquidator in the bankruptcy of La Perla, with assets across the world, including France, Liechtenstein, UK, Spain, Antigua and Panama and a deficit of over EUR 100Mio;
- Advising a large Dutch telecom provider on a dispute with the liquidators of The Phone House on the settlement of mutual claims;
- Advising a client in the gaming industry on a EUR 25Mio multicurrency senior secured bond issue;
- Acting for an international provider of loyalty programs in relation to a EUR 315Mio syndicated bank facility;
- Acting for a fund for the support of the photonics industry in the Netherlands on the loans it grants to companies in that industry;
